
In the ultraconcurrentiel world of big business schools' international career service is one of the weapons likely to make a difference - next to the quality of teaching or research. So that Insead attached particular importance to this issue. Dedicated service has indeed not steadily to expand in recent years. In total, 24 people (of 11 nationalities...) working there, including 9 in Singapore, against only 5 a decade ago. Not counting 15 coaches. What offer to all the participants an impressive arsenal.
"We are not a placement service, points out, however Sandra Schwarzer, Director of the service. Our mission is primarily to provide our students an open mind on their careers and give them the means of the conduct in the most effective way possible. We allow them to truly manage their routes. "To do this, a team of consultants"follows"the different sectors of activity and their employment opportunities, to inform and advise participants. Each of them manages a portfolio of 80 to 100 firms to recruit graduates.

Whether negotiating salary
A second team is responsible for the "operational" aspect: making an appointment, organization of fora career, management of the Web platform, known as Career Link. Participants can place their RSUM; recruiters, for their part, have the opportunity to provide offers and select candidates, precisely defining the profiles they are looking for. Throughout the year, the school also organises a multitude of events and meetings with recruiters to convince them to hire a graduate. The opportunity also to promote the image of the Insead business. Finally, some members of the service concerned alumni, whether they are graduates of the MBA or EMBA - provided that they are their dues.
In General, the focus is on practical tools: interviews, CV writing preparation... Insead offers some 70 thematic workshops per year. The curriculum is so punctuated by career-related activities: working knowledge of itself, CV workshops, then develop a strategy for research, meetings with experts of a sector, before moving to active research and management of maintenance sessions. Nothing is left to chance: on board and on body language, or the art of negotiate his salary... "All this represents for our students a very heavy investment, in addition to the actual tuition," notes Sandra Schwarzer.
This is not everything. Participants are also entitled to the services of professional coaches, which help them to work on their career goals in the medium and long term, examining with them their strengths and weaknesses, make them talk about their family... Many of these coaches are Insead Alumni, who have been trained in the coaching and indeed their trade.
The crisis, of course, savings not graduate from Insead. The school now has some 3,000 graduates, of all ages, in search of employment. Some workshops have even been designed taking into account the situation: how to better use its network, for example.
The career service potential new developments over the next years. "More and more participants wish to work in Asia, observed Sandra Schwarzer. We must respond to this expectation.
